Holidays In Haiti

I will start by praying everyone had a wonderful day surrounded by friends, family and love.

How ironic to spend Thanksgiving in Haiti, one of the most impoverished countries in the world. It has definitely given me a real appreciation for what I have to be thankful for.

I was asked the question “what stood out for you most on the trip?” My immediate response was ‘how blown away I was by the generosity I saw in people who had nothing by our standards, and their willingness to help each other”.

It’s hard to describe the conditions these people wake up to each day. I felt like I was in the middle of a World Health Organization or National Geographic photo shoot the whole time we worked, yet I never felt a sense of despair or hopelessness in the people. It truly was enlightening.

Enough can’t be said about the efforts of the team I’m here with.

I know the construction team changed lives for the better and provided hope with their efforts, but the ladies on the medical actual saved lives. On top of administering to over 300 patients they went on house visits and distributed over 80 feminine hygiene packs along with training. Phenomenal work ladies.

And a “hats off” to the The Bridge congregation, because without your generosity and support, none of this would have been possible.

I wasn’t naïve enough to think I could save Haiti in one mission trip, but I did want to be a part of making a difference in some ones life. By Gods grace I believe we did that.

So I ask myself, “how to save Haiti”? I believe because they are a proud people, Haiti has to save itself. What we can do, through the working of God with ministries like Haiti Arise and mission trips like our own, is save them one at a time by giving them hope and the education to eventually make the difference themselves.
